Ola Onabulé was born in Islington, London, but moved to Nigeria at the age of 7. He relocated with his family to Lagos, where he developed an interest in music and began singing in churches and choirs. At the age of 18, he returned to London to study law, but in his final year, he opted to pursue a degree in art instead. As an art student, he decided to dedicate himself to music instead.

In 1994, he released his debut album, “More Soul Than Sense,” which received very positive reviews and established him as an emerging talent in the world of jazz and soul. Since then, he has released 8 more albums, culminating in “Point Less” in 2019. Currently, he is writing his next album, which is expected to be released in mid-2024.

Throughout his career, live performances have been the heart of his journey. Starting in the UK and expanding to Europe and now worldwide.

Artistic Career

With nine albums under his belt and a new one being recorded in late 2023, Onabulé has graced the main stages of many international jazz festivals, including Montreal, Vancouver, San Sebastián, Istanbul, Washington, and Umbria, as well as concert halls and jazz clubs worldwide, building and consolidating a reputation with audiences globally.

Onabulé has also performed alongside legendary artists such as Diane Reeves, Al Jarreau, Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight, Roberta Flack, and Patti Labelle, and has performed two shows with Diana Krall at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Onabulé’s music blends elements of jazz, soul, funk, and African music to create a unique and distinctive sound. His lyrics often address social and political themes, such as the fight against oppression and injustice. He has received praise from both critics and fans for his ability to blend a powerful message with beautiful and moving music. His voice has also caught the attention of the world’s leading microphone company, Neumann, with whom he works closely.
